NOTE: IGS personnel modified the original shapefile obtained from IDEM by eliminating 2781 records that were appended by IDEM personnel to A-NPDES-PIPE.DBF but which did not have associated UTM values.

"This database is a subset of a larger table extracted from the national EPA Permit Compliance System (PCS) database and includes all 'active' records listed in Indiana associated with permitted surface water discharge points. It consists of regulated wastewater outfall or end-of-pipe related information under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System program. The files where available represent point locations and are projected into a UTM NAD83 zone 16 North coordinate system."

"The data set provides an important map layer for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management staff in conducting environmental assessments. Although the database record set depicts all available information on regulated discharge sites as of the date of extraction, the locational and coordinate information is not complete, therefore queries and other searches are best handled through the attribute tables rather than from visually on maps where all sites are represented."
"This subset of the Permit Compliance System database focuses in on "active" state regulated wastewater facility permit discharge points discharging into surface water bodies under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System program. It does include both "active" and "inactive" pipes for those actively permitted sites. Point locations generally reflect the sampling site which most often is where the discharge enters a surface water body but may reflect a manhole or other sample point. Records for which there are locational coordinates have mostly been collected using 5 meter mapping grade GPS field units. Other locational coordinates have been either map interpolated from USGS 1:24,000 topographical quadrangle maps or were provided as unverified numeric information by the regulated facility or it's representative. For more information about locational accuracy see the field 'Latitude/Longitude Method'."

Recent efforts have centered on using GPS mapping grade units to collect accurate locations at approximately +/- 5 meters. Other records have been either map interpolated from 1:24,000 USGS topographical quadrangle maps or still reflect coordinate values provided by outside sources of unknown accuracy."

NOTE: 2781 points were deleted from the A-NPDES-PIPE.DBF because there were no associated UTM values represented in the shapefile. IGS personnel then saved the edited shapefile as NPDES_PIPE_IDEM_IN.
It should also be noted that portions of the associated metadata provided by IDEM for A-NPDES-PIPE was extracted and included in this metadata file.
